Framework Regulation (EC) 1935/2004
States that food contact materials shall be safe. They should not transfer their component into the food in quantities that could endanger human health, change the composition of the food in an unacceptable way or deteriorate the taste and odor of foodstuffs.
Includes the following provisions:
- If an article is intended for food contact it shall be labeled for food contact materials should be safe.
- Labeling, advertaising and presentation of food contact materials shall not mislead the customer.
Plastic Directive 2002/72/EC
Related to plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food. Amended by 2004/1/EC: Suspension of the use of azodicarbonamide as blowing agent; 2004/19/EC; 2007/18/EC
Directive 89/09/EEC
Materials and articles must be manufactured, so that they do not transfer their constituents to food in quantities which could:
- Endanger human health.
- Bring about an unacceptable change in the composition of the food or deterioration in their organoleptic properties.
Directive 94/62/EC “Packaging and Packaging Waste”
Introduce measures on packaging and packaging waste management, reducing the environmental impact. The Directive aims to harmonize national measures, in order to prevent or reduce the impact of packaging and packaging waste on the environment and to ensure the functioning of internal market. |
