What is oxo-biodegradation?
Process in which plastic is first converted by reaction with oxygen, into molecular fragments that are water-wettable. These smaller oxidized molecules are biodegraded and transform into carbon dioxide, water and biomass, by decades or even centuries. ETP® Oxo-biodegradable additive, accelerate this process, so that it happens over a few months to a couple of years.
How does oxo-biodegradation works?
There are two methods: photodegradation uses UV light to degrade the end product and oxidation uses time and heat to breakdown the plastic. Both methods reduce the molecular weight of the plastic and allow it to biodegrade.
What are degradable and bio-degradable plastics?
Degradable plastics are design to undergo a significant change in its chemical structure, under specific environmental conditions, resulting in a loss of some properties that may vary.
Biodegradable plastics are a degradable plastic in which the degeneration results from the action of naturally-occurring microorganism, such as bacteria's, fungi's and algae's.
Can oxo-biodegradation plastic be recycled?
Yes, products made with ETP® Oxo-biodegradable additive can be recycled.
Is oxo-biodegradable plastic toxic or contains heavy metals?
They are no toxic and does not contain heavy metals.
Where can the end oxo-biodegradable product be tested for degradation?
There are several laboratories that can test and evaluate for oxo-biodegradation. ETP® will conduct the test on the end product with our additive.
What process can your oxo-biodegradable additive be used in?
In all major plastic manufacturing process.
Can ETP® Oxo-biodegradable additive be used for food contact application?
Yes, additives complies with FDA and other regulations that makes them safe for food contact application.
How does ETP® Oxo-biodegradable additive affect product performance?
ETP® Oxo-biodegradable additive will have identical performance to those without the additive. ETP® Oxo-biodegradable additives are develop to have a designated “use before” data.
Can your additive be processed on regular equipment?
Yes, no major changes in processing conditions are required.
What are the storage conditions for oxo-biodegradable products?
We advise oxo-biodegradable end products be used within six months of manufacture. The storage condition would be dry, protected from UV light and from heat over 110° F.
How does ETP® ensure quality?
We have 16 years of experience in the industry, besides, we have our in-house laboratory where our technicians develop several mechanical, physical and chemical tests, according to ASTM test methods.
With this performance, we ensure our clients that they have on his hand an optimal masterbatch formulation, according to its requirements. |
